Could menopause be affecting you more than you realise?

  • Hot flushes

  • Poor sleep
  • Joint aches
  • Low libido
  • Irregular periods
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Fatigue

Menopause symptoms are easily brushed off – by others, and sometimes even by ourselves. If you’ve been told it’s just stress, burnout, or getting older, you’re not alone.

We listen, we take your symptoms seriously, and we’ll help you understand what’s really going on.

Newcastle Menopause Clinic FAQs

  • For most healthy women under 60, or within 10 years of menopause, HRT is considered safe and effective.
  • Individual risk varies depending on factors such as medical history, BMI, smoking status and family history. That’s why we carry out a thorough 50-minute assessment before making recommendations.
  • We follow current national guidance (NICE NG23) and will always discuss both benefits and potential risks so you can make an informed decision.
  • We offer same-week appointments at our Newcastle menopause clinic in most cases, either in clinic or virtually.
  • You can check real-time availability online and choose a time that suits you — without long waits or 8am phone queues.

For many women over 45 with typical menopause symptoms, blood tests are not routinely required before starting HRT.

However, tests may be recommended if:

  • You are under 45
  • Your symptoms are unclear
  • You have irregular bleeding
  • There are other health considerations

Your GP will advise based on your individual circumstances.

If blood tests are needed, this may include:

  • FSH (in selected cases)
  • Thyroid function tests
  • Full blood count
  • Vitamin levels
  • Lipid profile
  • Other tests based on symptoms or medical history

Find out more about our private blood tests. We only request tests that are clinically appropriate and explain clearly why they are needed.

Yes.

Many women choose to move to private care at our Newcastle menopause clinic for longer appointments, continuity or easier access.

We can review your current treatment and provide ongoing structured follow-up. You can still access NHS services alongside private care if you wish.

  • HRT is not appropriate for everyone.
  • If it isn’t suitable based on your medical history or preferences, we will discuss alternative evidence-based options, including non-hormonal treatments and lifestyle strategies.
  • The consultation is about finding the safest and most appropriate plan for you — not automatically prescribing HRT.
  • Some private health insurance policies may cover GP consultations, but many do not routinely cover menopause care.
  • We recommend checking directly with your insurer before booking. We can provide receipts if required.

Yes.

We offer both in-clinic and secure video consultations. Many women prefer virtual appointments for convenience.

If an examination is required, we will advise you in advance.

No referral is required.
