Is a private health check right for you?

You may be considering a general health check-up because you want to understand more about your current health or discuss your risk of developing certain conditions. Knowing what is being assessed and having a GP explain the findings can help you make informed decisions about your care.

Our health assessment combines measurements and laboratory tests with medical interpretation. You’ll have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss what the findings mean for you.

If you have a particular symptom or an ongoing health concern, our Private GP Newcastle service may be a more appropriate starting point.

Unsure whether you’re eligible or which appointment to choose? Call 0191 603 0472, email info@heerahealthcare.com, or use our live chat for help with your enquiry.

What your £595 health check includes

The price covers your initial GP appointment, the package’s blood and urine tests, personalised risk assessments, written report and results consultation.

Your GP appointment

You’ll see Dr Cindy Kelly in person for a 45-minute consultation, including:

  • Height and weight measurements.
  • Blood pressure.
  • Pulse check.
  • Body mass index, or BMI, calculation.
  • Blood and urine testing.

Blood and urine tests

The blood-testing panel covers the following areas:

Test groupTests included
Full blood countHaemoglobin, red and white blood cells, platelets and associated measurements.
Kidney functionUrea, sodium, potassium and creatinine.
Liver functionALT, AST, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin and gamma GT.
Cholesterol profileTotal cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides and associated ratios.
Inflammatory markerHigh-sensitivity C-reactive protein, or hs-CRP.
Bone-related blood markersCalcium and phosphate.
Thyroid functionTSH, free T4, free T3 and thyroid antibodies.
Vitamin DVitamin D blood level.

Urine testing includes checks for protein, glucose, blood cells and other findings, alongside microscopy and culture.

Your GP will interpret the results as part of your assessment and explain any findings that need further attention. Individual results need context; they do not provide a diagnosis on their own.

If you’re looking for a particular test rather than a broader assessment, you can also explore our private blood testing service.

Personalised risk assessments

The package includes assessment of cardiovascular risk, diabetes risk and osteoporosis risk. Cardiovascular risk relates to your heart and circulation; osteoporosis is a condition that weakens bones.

These assessments help inform a discussion about your health and appropriate next steps. They are estimates of risk, rather than predictions that you will develop a condition.

Your written report and follow-up

Your report brings your results together for you to keep and refer to. During your included 15-minute telephone or video consultation, a GP will explain the findings and discuss any recommended further care.

Questions about private health checks

Are private health checks worth it?

Their value depends on your circumstances, the tests involved and what you want to understand. Before booking, consider what the assessment includes, its limitations and whether you’ll have professional support to interpret the results.

A private health check is not necessary for everyone. If you’re unsure whether this package is suitable, contact us to discuss your enquiry. At Heera, the £595 package includes time with a GP, a written report and a follow-up discussion, so you can ask questions about your findings and the recommended next steps.

How long does a health check take?

Your initial in-person GP appointment lasts 45 minutes. The package also includes a separate 15-minute telephone or video consultation to discuss your results.

These are appointment lengths, rather than the time needed to process your tests.

Do I need to fast before my health check?

Preparation depends on the tests being carried out. Please contact our team before your appointment to confirm whether you need to fast or follow any other instructions.

When will I receive my results?

Please contact us for the current expected turnaround time before booking. The package includes a written report and a GP results consultation once the findings are available for review.

What happens if a result needs further investigation?

Your GP will explain the finding and discuss the recommended next steps. An unusual result does not always mean there is a medical problem, but it may need further assessment.

The £595 package includes your results review. If further investigations or care are recommended, ask us about the arrangements and any costs before proceeding.

Is this a full body health check or health MOT?

“Full body health check” and “health MOT” are terms often used to describe a general health assessment, but the tests included vary between providers.

Our package covers the consultation, measurements, tests and risk assessments described above. It does not check for every condition or rule out all illness, and it should not replace medical advice about new or persistent symptoms.

How often should I have a health check?

There is no single schedule that suits everyone. The appropriate timing depends on your circumstances, previous findings and the reason for testing. You can discuss whether another assessment would be useful during your results review.

Not ready to book?

If you’re considering a health check but have questions about suitability, the tests included, or what happens next, get in touch. Our team can help with your enquiry before you decide whether to book.
